indeed a pinless bridge... but then again all my guitars have them.

I think I have only made 3 guitars with pinned bridges... should make more... sure easier.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for the kind comments on my recording. I'm very much a beginner with this recording stuff, and this clip was one of the first things I did to give people an idea of the tone. I'm excited to get the mic placement dialed in better so I can post a bunch more stuff.

I must say, Peter has really floored me with this guitar. Here is the review I posted on another forum:

25.9" Scale Length
1 13/16" nut width - 2 5/16" bridge spacing

Pinless Ebony bridge, Ebony fingerboard and binding

I wanted to give myself a couple of days to get acquainted before making comments on the guitar. I'm still in the honeymoon stage I guess, whatever that really means, but I played it for probably around 10-12 hours since Wednesday and I am head over heels IN LOVE! It stands firmly with the best I have ever played including Laskin, Greenfield and Beneteau. Peter completely exceeded my expectations in every respect. The long scale is something I have wanted for a long, long time and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. With a standard .056 string, I get a nice meaty low C (insert huge grin here -> ). It is strung with JP mediums now and it handles a wide range of tunings with ease. The extra bit of tension retained by the extended scale is also just enough to help me keep from bending strings sharp while playing a complex chord shape that I might not grab just right.

The whole package is masterfully executed. Finish like glass (thanks again Joe White!!!), extremely comfortable low profile satin finished neck, perfect mix of colors and textures for my taste. The bevel in particular is just outstanding - I like it better than the Laskin style bevels I have experienced. The soundport is doing exactly what I wanted - giving me a more full, 3D tone which in turn inspires me to play cleaner and better. I can clearly hear the difference when covering the port. I was going to work with Peter on a custom neck profile but I decided to let him do his thing with his standard low profile and it came out great. The wide spacing is perfect for me - I have the same on my baritone.

I just want to say again how pleased I am with the tone of this guitar, even only days after receiving it. The nature of build threads is often to focus on the cosmetic side, and while Peter knocked it out of the park in that respect it truly is an incredibly comfortable and big sounding guitar with excellent fundamentals, which is exactly what I asked for. I want to take this opportunity to thank Peter again for creating this instrument for me. Although I paid good money for it (that I worked hard for!!), I still feel that I have been given a gift.

yes, its a very nice sounding guitar that seems alive with overtones...

try using 2 mics and play with where you place them to get different sound combinations...and of course record them in stereo so you have the option of mixing them that way, or simply playing around with the mix/spatial separation...I think with that sound port you will be able to get some really nice and full sounds...I've found that placing one of the mics behind the guitar gives a nice boom to the sound, and putting one around the headstock can add in an interesting tinny aspect...its all in what you want to hear and feel as you are playing...I always record with headphones on as I like to play to what sound is actually being recorded, and it sounds like from the words you used you also feel that way, and this is especially important if you are using effects on the input signals (I prefer to record with effects as opposed to adding them in later because as I noted, I like to play to the sound I'm getting at that moment)

What are you using for strings on that, particularly on that soundclip?

Absolutely gorgeous guitar and playing.. you both should be proud!

This guy is quite impressed! There are so many different tones coming out of the instrument. I know that is due to some top-notch playing, but that guitar is helping the artist for sure.
Some of those passages sound like several guitars playing in concert.
Artist and guitar--must be a match made in heaven.

Mike - I'm very much looking forward to experimenting with two mics. Thanks for the ideas. I haven't tried using headphones yet - the handful of recordings I have done were point and shoot affairs just to see what I'm working with. I'm definitely into playing with the actual recorded tone, so I'll try using some phones soon. Thanks again for your comments

Adam - thanks so much, I am very proud of Peter and I know he is very happy with this guitar. The strings are John Pearse phosphor bronze mediums 700M .013-.056. I was going to try a .059 for going into the C and B range, but I'm quite happy with the tone and feel of the low string with just the .056. The 25.9" scale is just perfect for me!

Steve, you couldn't be more right. The design and overall experience of playing this guitar allow me to just relax and focus on making music. After many years of buying and selling and not being totally happy, this is invaluable to me.

Now I know they sound as good as they look -- thanks for posting that. Beautiful in every respect, and something to shoot for.
